Tennessee Healthy Hardwoods Field Days

Theme: Herbicides & Oak Regeneration

Private forest landowners and professional land managers are invited to attend this year’s Tennessee Healthy Hardwoods (THH) Forestry Field Days, provided at no cost to participants.

Dates & Locations

October 10 – Union/Claiborne County Line (Sharps Chapel, TN)

Location: TN Division of Forestry Work Center

3476 Sharps Chapel Road

  • From Maynardville Hwy./TN-33, travel ~10.7 miles on Sharps Chapel Road.

  • Continue 0.5 miles past the TWRA check-in station.

  • The TDF firetower (first road) and work center (second road) will be on the left.

    Register by October 3

October 17 – Humphreys County (Waverly, TN)

Location: Humphreys County Soil Conservation District Office

234 W. Blue Creek Road (off Hwy. 13 S)

  • Travel ~2 miles south on Hwy. 13 S from Waverly.

  • West Blue Creek Road will be on the right-hand side.

    Register by October 10 (limited to 80)

  • 9:15 – 12:15 Presentations on:

    • Shelterwood harvest: what it is and how to create it

    • Herbicide applications in hardwoods

    • Dr. Peairs’ herbicide research on oak seedling release & herbicide flashback

  • 12:15 – 1:00 Lunch (provided) & door prizes

  • 1:00 – 3:30 Field Tours

Continuing Education

Professionals may accrue:

  • 4 pesticide hours (pending TN Dept. of Ag approval)

  • 5 CFE (Continuing Forestry Education) credits
