This position provides vision, planning, administration, and supervision for the Division’s forest and business data and analytical services programs. The position ensures that the unit is positioned to address current and future forest and business services information and resource analysis needs that help people make good decisions. This unit plays the key role for integrating the Division’s information resources; providing timely and accurate information about Tennessee’s forest resources, supporting information acquisition needs and implementing ways for users to have readily available access to forest resource data. This position especially works closely with Business Development Division to support marketing of forestry and forest based businesses. Additionally, this position has the primary role of providing and managing both tabular and spatial (GIS) information systems for the Division in coordination with the Department of Finance and Administration, Strategic Development Solutions Division’s systems.

The Tennessee Division of Forestry is seeking candidates to form a Prescribed Fire Strike Team, including one burn boss and four team members, based out of the division’s Westel, TN field office in Cumberland County. The team’s primary responsibilities will be to perform the division’s prescribed burning vendor services. Please distribute to your networks to help us cast a wide net and build a strong team.

Prescribed Fire Strike Team Burn Boss (Forestry Technician) – one position

This position is established to supervise and manage the Prescribed Fire Strike Team. The Prescribed Fire Strike Team is a vendor service for various types of landowners, traveling throughout the state based on resources and weather. Under general supervision, the burn boss performs skilled prescribed fire and fuels planning and implementation of moderate complexity. Additional duties may include fire suppression, hazard mitigation, and conservation/forestry work of average difficulty and supervisory work of routine difficulty; and performs related work as required.

Prescribed Fire Strike Team Crew Member (Forestry Aide 2) – four positions

Westel, TN

Under direct supervision, the crew member performs prescribed fire and fuels planning and implementation of moderate complexity. Additional duties may include fire suppression, hazard mitigation, and conservation/forestry work of average difficulty and related work as required. The RX Strike Team Crew Member will work throughout the Cumberland Plateau and East TN districts. This position may spend time away from home base, the Westel Work Center, in Rockwood, TN. Housing away from the home base will be will be provided by TDF.

Fire Management Specialist (Planning/Fuels) Nashville, TN Registration closes Sept. 12 This position will provide specialized professional guidance and advice in the development, management, and implementation of wildland fire management activities to include; suppression, prevention, prescribed fire, hazardous fuels mitigation, fire planning programs and policies, and interagency coordination. The fire management program is complex due to the large acreage, risk potential, types of terrain and ecosystems, effects of fuels, socio-political and multi-jurisdictional boundaries, and other multiple resource programs with conflicting goals and needs. Prior firefighting experience, as gained in a primary firefighter capacity is a prerequisite for this position.
